Welcome to the work-session on scenario planning in south central and central Oregon. This is the detailed time-line of the event for your reference:

Describing the Process

Focusing question: “How do changing communities and landscapes affect how we manage forests and adapt to fire risk?” What is scenario planning and how we are going to apply it for this project? |

Landscape presentation |
Brief history of region and perspectives from participants--Tom Spies and Kelly Dickinson |
10:45- 11:00 15 minutes |
Fears & Hopes
|
Question and answer session on the participant’s fears and hopes for the landscape and the communities in the next 25 years. |
11:00- 11:25 25 minutes |
Driver Brainstorming
|
Drivers will be defined as… STEEP categories will be used for categorizing: Social Technological Economic Ecological Political & Policy Other |
11:25- 12:10 45 minutes |
Linking Drivers
|
Small groups with 4 to 5 participants. This session will focus on taking the drivers from the previous session and linking drivers together and how they interact in shaping the future. Small groups will be asked to create three different diagrams of their linking drivers. |

Small Groups Presentations |
The small groups present their linked drivers and quickly describe their vision. |
1:20- 2:30 70 minutes |
Storyline groups |
Small groups will be asked to take the linked drivers and develop 2 basic storylines as an exercise for developing formal scenarios. |
2:30- 3:15 45 minutes |
Storyline presentations |
Each group will be given 15 minutes to present their storylines to the larger group. Discussion will help narrow down a smaller number of storylines to be developed into scenarios by OSU students. |
3:15- 3:30 15 minutes |
Closing comments & evaluation |
Outline (1) goals for studio class and data collected and (2) preliminary ideas for Phase II of the scenario planning exercise to be done this summer.
